Business Intelligence at your fingertips

Chris Hirst, head of pre-sales at Kerridge Commercial Systems (KCS), explains how using a computer system with a fully integrated business intelligence (BI) module can provide you with clear insights into every aspect of your business, help you spot trends and support you in making crucial business decisions.

Business intelligence is so much more than simply a history of your sales transactions. Today, modern ERP systems with integrated BI modules are able to deliver a holistic view of how your operation is performing and are designed to help you spot trends and subtle changes in your business environment that might otherwise be overlooked.

You’ll obviously want reports showing sales and margin performance by product, branch or staff. But what about those showing stock turn and stock value or supplier performance? OTIF (on time in full) reports can highlight a gradual decline in service and put you in a strong position when it’s time to renegotiate delivery terms. Accurate reports about customers who are no longer purchasing, or the busiest trading times, can help you plan promotions and activities to regain customers or capture new business.

Systems with integrated BI modules mean you don’t need to export data to third party software for analysis, and let you drill down to interrogate individual transactions while you’re in the same programme. An ideal system will also:

  • Provide you with a suite of ready-made reports that have been honed by people running similar businesses to your own.

  • Enable you to customise reports on your most important KPIs.

  • Show you the just the highlights - but let you drill down to core transactions when you need to.

  • Deliver business intelligence via a browser client – so field sales teams or holidaying managers and business owners can access live reports on their mobile devices.

K8 software combines a suite of integrated modules including sales order processing, purchasing, stock control, eCommerce and financial accounting - as well as business intelligence.
